Question: What is the main message of the video? (http://blog.ninapaley.com/2012/10/01/this-land-is-mine/) Compare its idea of land ownership against the Bible’s teaching about who truly owns the land of Canaan (Palestine).
Answer: First, we may want to look at what the Bible says about the land of Canaan. God commanded Abraham to leave Haran, showed the Land of Canaan and promised that God will give the land to him and to the generations to come. (Gen. 12:1-5) When famine struck the land of Canaan, Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, moved out from their land and went to Egypt. After many years of staying at Egypt, their families, the Israelites, multiplied and have forgotten about the land promised to them by God. God then called Moses to lead the Israelites to the land he promised to their forefathers. Because the generation of Moses is hard-headed people, they were not permitted by God to enter the promise land, only the generations next to them, Joshua’s generation. The Lord commanded Joshua to lead the Israelite Army in conquering the land. So Joshua took the entire land, just as the Lord had directed Moses, and He gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. (Jos. 11:23) Since Israel, again, is a hard-headed nation, the Lord allowed them to be in exile for so many years and many nations would like to take that land and govern them – that is up until now.
In the video clip “This Land is Mine”, it shows how the people fought for the Land of Canaan up until the present day. In the end part of the clip, the Angel of Death “conquers” the land and it illustrates that He is the real owner of the land because death stings those who occupy the land of Canaan
We do not know why many people want to take control of the land, maybe because it is the “Promise Land”. The video clip is quite similar with the story in the Bible and it continued the story up to the present time. I believe that the promise of the Lord to Abraham is still in effect today, Israel still owns the land; and it’s just that other nations govern them and say, “this land is mine”.
